On February 26th – 27th 2014 the College of Polytechnics in the the town of Jihlava in the Czech Republic organized the 9th International Conference on special issues in tourism - „The Travel and Tourism Industry and its Impacts on Society.“ The main aim of the conference was to create the conditions for an international convention of experts and academicians and build an environment for discussions of the current travel and tourism industry’s problems and their impact on society. Věra Fišerová´s and Monika Klímová´s presentation dealt with this issue in their paper “The Role of Cultural Traditions in Modern Trends in Wellness”. The presenters based their conclusions on partial results from the WelDest project research that is being carried out with the financial support of the EACEA.
The paper draws attention to wellness and sauna rituals that are an inseparable part of all significant world cultures even if their system of provision varies. The differences in sauna rituals, and respecting cultural habits may become a decisive part of product creation suitable for a particular destination and segment of tourists.
